Khaled Hosseini, born on March 4, 1965, in Kabul, Afghanistan, is an Afghan-born American novelist and physician. He spent his formative years in Kabul before moving to the United States in 1980. Hosseini’s debut novel, “The Kite Runner,” published in 2003, became an international bestseller, propelling him to literary fame. The novel, set against the backdrop of Afghanistan’s turbulent recent history, explores themes of guilt, redemption, and the complex relationships between fathers and sons. Hosseini followed up with other successful novels, including “A Thousand Splendid Suns” (2007) and “And the Mountains Echoed” (2013), both of which further solidified his reputation as a master storyteller with a keen eye for human emotion and the intricacies of family and societal dynamics. Beyond his writing, Hosseini is also a Goodwill Envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, advocating for refugees around the world.
