William Boyd – A Good Man in Africa
In "A Good Man in Africa" by William Boyd, we follow the life of Morgan Leafy, a British diplomat stationed in Africa. Leafy, a selfish and corrupt man, becomes entangled in a web of deceit and scandal as he tries to advance his own career. Along the way, he becomes involved with a powerful African woman and her revolutionary lover, leading to dangerous consequences. The novel is a satirical critique of British colonialism and the corruption and hypocrisy that often accompanies it. Despite the dark subject matter, Boyd's writing is witty and engaging, making for a compelling read.
